me and curling

what i did this week:

  • worked
  • slept
  • ate
  • watched little house on the prairie
  • watched curling
  • worked
  • slept
  • watched curling
  • ate
  • worked
  • slept
  • watched curling

i have loved curling since the last winter olympics. prior to that, i’ve never ever heard of curling. but once i saw it, i was hooked. i think i like it almost as much as figure skating, which is the only other sport i watch during the winter olympics.

i was still doing my norwegian class four years ago so we discussed figure skating to death in class because one of the russian chicks in my class used to be a russian figure skater. like, national athlete. her ex-figure skating partner actually was competing at the last olympics. so we talked about figure skating a lot. there was only one other person in class who liked curling beside me. sad.

coming up to vancouver, i was looking forward to watching curling again. rubbing my hands in anticipation. i don’t think many people were fans of curling. until the norwegian team wore their loud pants and caught everybody’s attention. it’s been dubbed ‘klovnebukser’ (klovn – clown, bukser – pants) here in norway. my first reaction to those pants was, like most people’s reaction, what the heck! but i warmed up to them and after a minute or so thought they were quite cool and funky. i’m too lazy to link a picture but google klovnebukser and curling and i’m sure there’ll be plenty of photos to be found.

i have wathched curling at 6am, right after i got home from work. i watched it during the afternoon, before work. i watched it last night after midnight, before i went to work. i love curling. it’s fascinating.

the difference is, this year, i can actually talk about it with people because the norwegian curling team’s pants have attracted a lot of attention and, apparently, people are now following curling. ladies at my work talked about the pants. the guys talking about wanting to try curling.

i am no longer the weird chick who watch curling. i’m just one of the many people who’s cheering up the norwegian curling team who, by the way, is doing extremely well. they’re playing denmark and are leading by a point as i’m typing this. even MOH watches curling now. but i can rub it in their face that i’ve liked curling pre-klovnebukser while they all just jumped on the bandwagon because it’s suddenly ‘in’. huh!

so to norwegian curling guys with their breath of fresh air pants (everybody else wears black): go you good thing!
